The most common issues that we repeatedly see in South African industries include:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp class=\u0022text-align-justify\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E1. Voltage instability\u003C/strong\u003E\u003Cbr /\u003E\nThis is in part a side effect of the high or low voltage electricity supply from the network. High voltage does not increase equipment power and is detrimental to equipment performance and longevity, and low voltage can cause reduced productivity. Voltage optimisation ensures the voltage supplied to the system is stable, as required by the equipment on site.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp class=\u0022text-align-justify\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E2. Harmonic voltages and currents\u003C/strong\u003E\u003Cbr /\u003E\nThese are introduced by a range of common electrical devices which distorts the AC wave form and increases power usage. By introducing harmonic filters or reactors, the result is more efficient power usage and cost savings.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp class=\u0022text-align-justify\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E3. Poor power factor\u003C/strong\u003E\u003Cbr /\u003E\nThis refers to an excess of reactive power in the system. This reactive power does not perform any real work. As such, it is wasteful and costly. Visitors and staff are impressed with the ambience of this LED lighting system, which simulates natural daylight and provides excellent visibility for office work functionality.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThis circadian rhythm lighting system replicates daylight rhythms, with dynamic light levels and tones that change throughout the day. This advanced technology has numerous health benefits and occupants of the building will feel more alert, be more productive and benefit from working in a more natural lighting environment. Start by assessing the total cost of ownership. This involves the assessment of all possible costs involved with the lighting solution over its anticipated lifetime. This is usually calculated for each design alternative, in order to determine the most cost-effective choice. At this point, many cost factors are estimated. It is an essential part of the quality process of designing an installation to determine these estimates as reliably as possible.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECost factors to be considered with a lighting installation\u003Cbr /\u003E\n1. Installation efficiency should be considered alongside usage efficiency. Only the amount of light required to perform a specific task at a specific moment should be made available in that moment. This is referred to as demand dependant lighting, and is achieved using lighting control systems.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EModern lighting control systems should offer far more possibilities than a simple switch-on-switch-off function. Automatically controlled dimming of lighting groups result in valuable cost and energy savings, without sacrificing task performance of the installation. This is referred to as task-dependent control.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ETask-dependent lighting control is relevant across all lighting application fields. Examples include:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EIndoor lighting\u00A0- task and age dependent\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ERoad lighting - traffic density, weather type, time-of-night dependent\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ESports lighting\u00A0- competition type, training only\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAn efficient lighting control system in indoor lighting applications should also take advantage of daylight. This can be achieved by dimming and switching off the electrical lighting in those instances where sufficient daylight enters the indoor space.
